BeautiControl Consultant FAQ
- Maintaining Active Status
- When I get my personal Consultants back in January from the mending broken chains, will I automatically become a VIP if I have 3 personal active Consultants?
- No, in order to become a VIP or higher, you would need to meet all requirements (in one month) to promote to that career level, including the personal sales volume requirements and the Unit volume requirements.
- How do I maintain my active status?
-
A Consultant maintains active status by ordering cumulative $150 Retail in 3 consecutive or rolling months.
The system will determine your active status at the end of each month by looking at the current month and the past 2 months. If the current plus past 2 months adds up to $150, then you will be active at the beginning of the following month. If the current month plus past 2 months equals less than $150, you will go inactive starting the first of the following month. You could place your orders for those 3 months in a variety of ways, please see some examples below of ordering activity and how that affects active status to understand more.
New Consultants: A new Consultant who has purchased the BC Spa Business Case or the BC BeautiCase and is within her first 3 months is also considered active.
For new Consultants, month 4 will be the beginning of the new active requirements of $150 Retail in 3 rolling months. In month 4, the new Consultant will need to order $150 Retail to remain active. Or, if the New Consultant already ordered in months 2 or 3 then the total Retail orders for months 2, 3 and 4 equal $150 or more Retail to remain active. - If a former Director, who lost her Directorship, promotes back up to Directorship in the new Freedom Plan, will she be eligible for the $1,000 promote-up bonus?
- Yes, all Directors (whether they are former Directors or new Directors) will receive the $1,000 promote-up bonus. Although this bonus is really for first-time Directors, the Freedom Plan will pay it out on former Directors who promote-up again 2010 only.
- If a Consultant reaches the VIP paid-as level (meets the qualifications to be paid-as a VIP) in the middle of the month by meeting all the necessary requirements to promote to VIP, will she start receiving the 50% discount level at mid-month?
- No, she would start getting the 50% discount level the following month. Discount structure is based on the career level title, which is updated once a month, at the end of the month when promotions take place. So the 50% discount level associated with being a VIP will begin the first of the next month after promotion. The Consultant can get the 50% discount level by placing the $750 order according to the discount structure before promoting to the higher career level title.
- An Executive VIP gets paid on her 2nd level. Does she count them in her unit volume amount too?
- Yes, only if the second level is within her Unit. The Unit Consists of the Executive VIP and everyone below her except any Directors and anyone below them.
- What happens if the new VIP promotes one month and does not meet the requirements to be paid-as a VIP the second month?
- If a VIP achieves her requirements the first month (the month of promotion), then the Advancement Bonus is paid out. If she does not achieve her requirements in the following month, then she does not count as a VIP for her upline and will be paid at whichever title she performs that month. This second month, she would not count as a VIP for her parent to get the Consistency Bonus. The next month if she qualified as a VIP again, the Consistency Bonus would be paid to her parent recruiter (if the recruiter was at equal or higher paid-as title that month).
- If a Consultant has been dropped from the company, does this Consultant’s personal recruits roll-up to the parent to be a “1st Line” for commissions and bonuses?
- No.
- When a VIP does not qualify as a VIP in the month following promote-up and the recruiter does not get the Consistency Bonus, can the recruiter still get the Bonus in the second month if the VIP qualifies in the second month?
- Yes.
- If a Consultant is a VIP with six personal recruits in December and begins as a Sr. VIP Jan 1st, will she and the recruiter get paid the VIP Advancement Bonus?
- This would not be considered a promotion for January 1. A current VIP may receive a new title dependent upon her structure of active personally recruited Consultants during the month of December. This is an adjustment of Career Level Title as we move into the new Freedom Plan and not a promotion.
- If an inactive Consultant, who had signed up Consultants while she was still active, decides to re-activate, will she regain the Consultants she had on her team?
- Yes. She will get the Consultants back on January 1 and any date after that that she decides to reactive, as long as she does not get dropped. This is called mending the broken chain.
- Is the 50% discount level going to continue for new Consultants for their first 30 days?
-
New Consultants will receive the 50% discount level on all orders through the first full month when a single Retail order of $500 ($600 CN) or more is submitted with the agreement or within 14 days.
Example:
1. Sally Smith signs up, and submits an agreement, on January 15. Sally joins with the $125 ($150 CN) BC Spa BeautiCase. Sally will receive a 50% discount when she places a single retail order of $500 ($600 CN)or more by January 19. Sally will receive the 50% discount on any orders placed through February 28.
2. Sally Smith signs up, and submits an agreement, on January 15. Sally joins with the $385 ($462 CN) BC Spa Business Case. Sally will receive a 50% discount on any orders placed through February 28.
3. Sally Smith signs up, and submits an agreement, on January 30. Sally joins with the $125 ($150 CN) BC Spa BeautiCase. Sally will receive a 50% discount when she places a single retail order of $500 ($600 CN) or more by February 14. Sally will receive the 50% discount on any orders placed through February 28.
4. Sally Smith signs up, and submits an agreement, on January 31. Sally joins with the $385 ($462 CN) BC Spa Business Case. Sally will receive a 50% discount on any orders placed through February 28. In other words, as long as the $500 ($600 CAN) Retail order is placed within 14 days, the new Consultant will receive the 50% discount level for the month she joins and the following month. - Is there any 55% discount for new Consultants now?
- Only if the new Consultant joins the business with the Spa Business Case. This option has a built-in effective 55% on the case itself due to the richness of the product offerings in this case. However, a 55% discount on the order is not available on any other orders.
- Does a VIP get paid the Qualified Personal Team Recruiting Bonus during the month she recruited or when her new Consultant is qualified?
- Recruits count towards the bonus in the month that the recruits become qualified.
- What does it mean to mend the broken chain?
- Mending broken chains means that if a Consultant has personal recruits and goes inactive, she will regain those personal recruits once she reactivates. This also applies to currently inactive Consultants who decide to reactivate. They will get their personal recruits back once they reactivate starting January 1, along with the ability to get commissions on these personal recruits. Even though a Consultant may get her personal recruits back, she will have to qualify as a VIP, Sr. VIP or higher by meeting all requirements to promote-up to that career level. For example, if a Consultant reactivates and regains her 3 personal recruits in January, she would still need to have the $500 ($600 CAN) personal sales volume and $1,000 ($1,200 CAN) Unit sales volume in January to advance to VIP at month-end.
- Who is eligible for the Freedom Bridge Subsidy?
- Consultants of all levels are eligible to receive the Freedom Bridge Subsidy. The subsidy will be 100% January through March and 50% April through June in 2010. VIPs and above must place the monthly $500 ($600 CAN) Retail order to be eligible for the subsidy. See the Freedom Plan Terminology Guide for more details on the subsidy.
- Active and Inactive
- What are the requirements to be active?
- A Consultant maintains active status by ordering cumulative $150 Retail in 3 rolling months or is a new Consultant who has purchased a BC Spa BeautiCase or BC Spa Business Case and is within her first 3 months in the business. Consultants who do not maintain active requirements will become inactive. See the new FAQ on the first page that details examples of the orders a Consultant could place to remain active.
- How does a Consultant become inactive?
- A Consultant at any level goes inactive when she orders less than $150 cumulative Retail in 3 rolling months. Once a Consultant becomes inactive, she can become active again by placing a single Retail sales order of $150 or more within 12 months of becoming inactive. The discount structure will apply to the $150 reactivation order. Consultants who are inactive do not receive a Retail discount (for orders less than $150), but can order products at the suggested Retail price.
- If an inactive Consultant becomes active again, will she retain her personal recruits?
- Consultants do not lose their personal recruits when they become inactive, however, Consultants who are inactive are not eligible to receive any downline commissions or pay. Only when a Consultant is dropped/terminated will she lose her recruits.
- When will a Consultant be dropped after becoming inactive?
- Consultants who are inactive for 12 consecutive months will be dropped/terminated. Terminated Consultants can rejoin BeautiControl by signing an Independent Consultant Agreement and purchasing a BC Spa BeautiCase or BC Spa Business Case.
- Does a Consultant lose her career level title when she becomes inactive?
- Consultants do not lose their career level title when they become inactive, however, they will not be paid at that level once they go inactive. For example, a Director who goes inactive will be considered an inactive Director and will not receive any downline commissions.
- Discount Structure
- How can I get the 50% discount?
-
There are a few ways to get the 50% discount level:
1. Place a single $750 or more Retail order in a month and get the 50% discount on that order and on any size orders for the remainder of the month and the following month.
2. Place accumulative Retail orders that total $750 or more in a single month. Receive the 50% discount on that final order that brought the Retail total to $750 for the month and also get the 50% discount level the remainder of the month and the following month.
3. Advance to VIP or higher and receive the 50% discount level with the VIP (or higher) career level title.
4. As a new Consultant, place a $500 ($600 CAN) or more Retail order with in 14 days of submitting your new Consultant Agreement and a receive a 50% discount on that order and any order placed the month she joins and the following month.

3. Purchase a BC Spa BeautiCase and order accumulative $1,000 ($1,200 CAN) or more Retail orders in the first 60 days.
- Senior Consultants
- How does a Consultant promote to Senior Consultant?
- When a Consultant recruits a Consultant, she promotes to Senior Consultant. She must order $150 ($180 CAN) Retail in a month to receive the 4% commission on her personal recruit(s).
- What will a Senior Consultant’s new title be in the Freedom Plan starting January 1, 2010?
- Senior Consultants will be Senior Consultants in the new Freedom Plan starting on January 1, 2010.
- VIP
- Does a VIP need to maintain monthly maintenance requirements to get the 50% discount?
- No, when a Consultant promotes to VIP or higher, she automatically gets the 50% discount level on all her Retail orders. VIPs and higher keep the 50% discount level as long as they have a career level title of VIP or higher. For example, even if a VIP does not meet the monthly requirements to be a paid-as VIP ($500 ($600 CAN) personal sales, $1,000 ($1,200 CAN) Unit Volume and 3 active personal recruits), she will still have the 50% discount level that month. It is only when she is reclassified to Senior Consultant or Consultant that the discount structure applies.
- Is the VIP Advancement Bonus a one-time bonus or is it paid every time a VIP promotes to VIP?
- The VIP Advancement Bonus is a one-time bonus that is paid to the VIP that promotes and the upline parent recruiter at VIP or higher. If a Consultant has already been a VIP, loses the title and promotes back to VIP again, neither she nor her parent recruiter will receive the advancement bonus.
- What will VIPs’ titles be in the new Freedom Plan on January 1, 2010?
- Please see transition plan below for VIPs:
- If a Consultant qualifies as a VIP in December with the $500 personal sales, $1,000 Unit Volume and 3 active personal recruits, will she still get her advancement bonus?
- No, the VIP Advancement Bonus will only get paid out on new VIPs who qualify for advancement starting in January, 2010. Any VIPs that qualify in December to promote January 1 will not be entitled to the VIP advancement bonus.
- If a Consultant promotes up more than 1 VIP level at a time, are multiple VIP Advancement Bonuses paid?
- Yes. When a Consultant advances to VIP for the first time, both she and her parent recruiter (who must be a VIP or higher) get a matching $100 VIP Advancement Bonus. If the Consultant moves up more than 1 VIP level in a month, the advancement bonuses would still get paid. For example, if a Senior Consultant advances to Senior VIP in 1 month, both she and her parent recruiter (who must be Senior VIP or higher) would get $200. They would each get $100 for advancement to VIP and $100 for advancement to Senior VIP.
- How is a Unit defined for VIP through Executive VIP?
- A Unit (for all VIPs and above) includes the entire downline but excludes all Directors and higher (based on career level title) and their downlines. Unit Volume for a VIP (or above) is the total volume of the entire downline, excluding all Directors and higher (based on career level title) and their downlines. All VIP levels have monthly Unit Volume requirements.
- Does the Unit Volume requirement for VIPs and above include personal sales?
- Yes. Unit Volume for a VIP or above includes her personal Retail sales, plus the total Retail volume of her entire downline, but excludes all Directors and higher (based on their career level title) and their downlines.
- Can VIPs and above count personal sales towards the Personal Recruits Commission?
- No, the Personal Recruits Commission is a commission on the combined Retail volume of a VIP’s personal recruits.
- What is a VIP line?
- A line starts with a personal recruit (1st level) and also includes every Consultant below them regardless of their title. The Freedom Plan requires that some career levels, such as Executive VIP and Directors, have lines with a paid-as VIP or Director anywhere in the line. A VIP line is a line that has at least 1 paid-as VIP (or higher paid-as title) anywhere in the line, making the entire line a VIP line.
- Does a Director or higher under a VIP count as a VIP line?
- Yes.
- How does the Qualified Personal Team Recruiting Bonus work?
- The Personal Team Recruiting Bonus is a monthly bonus paid to VIPs and above for personal and team qualified recruiting. To receive the bonus, the VIP and above must have a minimum of 2 personal qualified recruits and the remainder can be either personal recruits or their personal recruits’ recruits, all of whom place qualifying orders (must be qualified recruits added to the first and 2nd level of their personal Units).
- When do recruits count for the Qualified Personal Team Recruiting Bonus?
- Recruits count towards the Personal Team Recruiting Bonus in the month that they qualify.
- If a VIP has a Director who is a personal recruit, will that Director’s personally qualified recruits count towards the Qualified Personal Team Recruiting Bonus totals for the VIP parent?
- No, the Director’s personal qualified recruits would not count towards her parent VIP’s total number of recruits to get the Personal Team Recruiting Bonus.
- Can a Senior VIP or Executive VIP be paid 2nd and 3rd Level Commissions on Directors in her downline?
- Yes, the 2nd and 3rd Level Commission pay is a commission paid to Senior VIPs (2nd Level Commissions) and Executive VIPs (2nd and 3rd Level Commissions) on the Retail volume of their personal recruits’ recruits (2nd level) at any Career Level and their personal recruits’ recruits’ recruits (3rd level) at any Career Level. Directors at any level are included.
- Director In Qualification (DIQ)
- How will DIQs be handled in 2010 with the Freedom Plan?
- If a Consultant has entered the DIQ Program prior to January 2010, she will remain in the DIQ Program under the 2009 rules and terms until she completes her DIQ period. Once she successfully completes DIQ, she will be able to promote-up to Director. DIQs who qualify for Director under the new Freedom Plan will also be able to promote to Director under the new Freedom Plan when they qualify, even if it is before their completion of the DIQ Program.
- If a DIQ has a DIQ in her unit, can the parent DIQ count the sales volume of the DIQ under her for qualification?
- If the downline DIQ is tracking toward promotion to the Director Career Level title under the old qualifications; no, the parent DIQ cannot count the sales volume. If the DIQ is tracking toward promotion to the Director Career Level title under the 2010 Freedom Plan; yes, the parent DIQ can count the sales volume for her promotion as long as she promotes with the full requirements under the 2010 Freedom Plan.
- Will DIQ pay change starting in January 2010?
- All DIQs will transition to EVIPs in the DIQ program starting January 1, 2010. They will be paid as the level they qualify for starting in January and will continue to get the 2% DIQ Unit Sales Commissions throughout the DIQ program. The Freedom Bridge subsidy will apply starting in January.
- Directors and Above
- Do Directors and above need to maintain monthly maintenance requirements to get the 50% discount?
- No, Directors and above automatically get the 50% discount level on all their Retail orders as long as they are active. Directors keep the 50% discount level as long as they have a career level title of Director or higher. For example, even if a Director does not meet the monthly requirements to be a paid-as Director ($500 ($600 CAN) personal sales, $8,000 ($10,000 CAN) Unit Volume and 3 paid-as VIP lines), she will still have the 50% discount for that month. It is only when she is reclassified to Senior Consultant or Consultant that the discount structure applies.
- Do Roll-ups count in the Freedom Plan?
- Directors will count in their parent Director’s structure according to Director line rules. Please see the Freedom Plan Terminology Guide for the definition of a Director line.
- How will Directors be paid for the Consultants who promote-up to Director prior to 2010?
- Directors that have promote-up Directors from their Unit prior to January 1, 2010 (meaning that December was their last qualifying month) will receive Director promote-up bonus pay according to the old Compensation Plan. Any Directors that promote up after January 1, 2010 will receive the Freedom Plan promote-up rewards and commissions.
- What happens if a Consultant becomes a Director before her upline in the Freedom Plan?
- When a Consultant advances to Director (or above) before her upline (who is not yet a Director), the upline Consultant has up to 6 months from the date of her downline promotion to Director to promote up and get all commission benefits from that new Director. The upline must become Director herself to keep these benefits beyond 6 months. Benefits lost include potential future generational promote-up commissions and Levels 1, 2, and 3 commissions.
- If someone was a former Director who lost Directorship and promotes up to Director again under the new Freedom Plan (in 2010 or after), would promote-up bonuses be paid to her and her parent Director?
- The former Director who lost Directorship and promoted-up again under the Freedom Plan would receive her $1,000 advancement bonus. Her parent Director, however would not receive the one-time $3,000 parent bonus. The parent Director would receive all the other commission benefits for promoting-up a Director including the 9% and Unit Sales Commission and Unit Sales Bonus benefits for the first 6 months following promote-up. See the Terminology Guide for details on these benefits.
- If a VIP is developed prior to January 2010, does her upline receive VIP bonuses in January?
- Directors who build VIPs in 2009 can participate in the 2009 VIP Building Bonus (see BeautiNet for details). Directors will not receive retroactive (paying backwards) Freedom Plan bonuses in 2010 on any VIPs built in 2009.
- If a Senior Director has a Director who is a personal recruit, will that Director’s personal qualified recruits count towards the Personal Team Recruiting Bonus for the Senior Director parent?
- No, the Director’s personal qualified recruits would not count towards her parent Senior Director’s total number of recruits to get the Personal Team Recruiting Bonus.
- Are the VIP Advancement and Consistency Bonuses only paid to Directors on personally recruited VIPs?
- Yes, the VIP Advancement and Consistency Bonuses are only paid on personally recruited VIPs.
- How will Director titles change January 1, 2010 in the Freedom Plan?
- On January 1, 2010, Directors and above will maintain the Career Level Title they held as of December 31, 2009. All Directors and above will keep their career level title for all of 2010 unless they drop out or resign. Directors will be paid as the career level to which they perform starting in January, 2010. </dt>
- What is World Volume?
- In the Freedom Plan, Senior Executive Directors and above have world volume requirements to qualify at their level. World Volume is a Senior Executive (or above) Director’s total Retail Volume in her downline organization. It includes the volume of all downline Consultants and the Director herself. If a Director qualifies for promotion at the end of December, her new title will be reflected in the new plan.
- Pay for Performance
- Do all levels have a paid-as title?
- Yes. A Consultant at any level is paid at the title for which she qualifies during the month, her paid-as title. If the Consultant does not achieve the monthly requirements for qualification in any month at that career level, she is paid at the level for which she qualifies during that month. Consultants retain their career level title but are paid-as the level for which they actually qualify. This title is known only to the Consultant and her upline.
- How long does a Consultant retain a career level title when not meeting the monthly career level requirements?
- Senior Consultants and above are reclassified after 12 consecutive months of not meeting the qualifications at their career level. At the month of reclassification, the Consultant will be reclassified to the level for which she qualifies.
- How do the paid-as titles of downline Consultants affect how I am paid?
- Senior Consultants and above have structure requirements to achieve a paid-as title equal to the career level title. To meet the structure requirements, a Consultant’s downline must have a paid-as title equal to the career level title in order to count for the structure requirements. For example, an Executive VIP must have 9 active personal recruits and a paid-as VIP line in order to meet the structure requirements for the month.
- Promoting/Advancing
- If a Consultant meets the requirements to promote-up to the next level, when does she advance?
- Advancement to a career level occurs at the end of the month that the Consultant meets the requirements to promote to that level. For example, if a VIP achieves all the requirements to promote-up to Senior VIP in October, her career level title will become Senior VIP at the end of October and she will be paid-as a Senior VIP for October.
- If a Consultant has all the requirements to advance to the next level in December, when will the promotion take place and how will bonuses be paid out?
- Any performance in December will fall under the rules of the current Compensation Plan. Starting in January 2010, Consultants can advance to higher career levels under the Freedom Plan. The Freedom Plan bonuses and commissions will not be paid out on December performance.
- Who do I contact if I have additional questions?
- If you have questions, you can contact your upline Director or Regional Vice President for additional support and information. You can also email questions to the email box, FreedomPlan@BeautiControl.com or call Consultant Care Center Director Services at 1-800-247-8400.
